Video Games Based on Movies and TV Series

Video games, most of the time, are an excellent alternative to expand the stories of movies or television series. Not everyone manages to succeed because of errors in their production, but we must recognize the difficult work involved in developing a quality game.

Here are the best video games that were inspired from movies and television series.

1. Indiana Jones and the last crusade

This video game was developed in 1989 by LucasArts, once known as LucasFilm Games. It is full of puzzles, action and humor.

2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

This video game was developed by Raven Software and premiered in 2009. It was also influenced by the X-Men comics, and contains a plot created by the company that developed it.

3. The Godfather

This video game was developed by the company Electronic Arts (EA), and is based on the movie The Godfather, 1972. It was released in 2006, and this adaptation is not the only one for this movie. In 1991 first computer game version was released.

4. Alien: Isolation

This video game was developed by The Creative Assembly and released in 2014, with a design very similar to the movie Alien: The Eighth Passenger, 1979. The same company that created it described it as a horror and survival game.

5. The Matrix: Path of Neo

The video game was developed by Shiny Entertainment and published in 2005. It contains some scenes from the movie and allows the player to participate in them. It was based on the science fiction trilogy Matrix.

6. South Park: The stick of truth

This video game is based on the television series South Park, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and Ubisoft. Although its launch was scheduled for 2013, it was released in 2014.

7. The Simpsons: Hit And Run

The video game was developed by Radical Entertainment and went on sale in the United States in 2003. It continues with the story of the Simpson family and the citizens of Springfield. The game won the favorite video game award at the Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Awards in 2004.

8. Dragon Ball

The Dragon Ball series, written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama, has had numerous adaptations to video games. But Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi, developed by Spike and launched in Japan in 2005, is considered one of the best, as it reached over 4 million units sold.

9. The Walking Dead

Developed by Telltale Games and released in 2012, it was inspired by  The Walking Dead series and the Robert Kirkman comics. The game has won approximately 80 awards.

10. GoldenEye 007

This video game was developed by Rare and published by Nintendo in 1997. It is based on the film with the same title of 1995. It sold more than 8 million copies and is considered one of the best games in the category “First-person shooter” of all times.

11. Aladdin

Developed and published by Capcom in 1993, the story told in the game is very similar to that of the movie Disney animated.

12. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

It was released in 2003, and it is a video game inspired by the last film of the trilogy of  The Lord of the Rings. It was developed by EA Redwood Shores (currently, Visceral Games), and follows three different stories based on the events of the tape.

13. Disney Infinity

Launched in 2013, this video game features the participation of characters from the Disney series and movies. The game sets are worlds of some of these movies, and even you can create your own version. It was developed by Avalanche Software.

14. X-Files: Resist of Serve

The secret files X  is a series recognized for its investigations of paranormal things. This video game was developed by Black Ops Entertainment in 2004, for Play Station 2. The first that was published is The X-Files: The Game. But the second, with music from the series and original voices of the actors, was more successful.

15. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

It was developed by the Canadian company BioWare in 2003, and is one of the first action role-playing videogames based on the fictional universe of the Star Wars saga. Its plot is located approximately 4,000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire.

16. Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force

Star Trek is a science fiction series released in 1966. The video game based on this movie was developed by Raven Software and Aspyr Media, and published by Majesco Entertainment in 1991. It is inspired mainly in the series Star Trek: Voyager, 1995.

17. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

There are different types of versions for this video game. The first was released in 2001, by Electronic Arts (EA), and is inspired by the first novel by J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The games include a spell that does not appear in books or movies: flipping.

18. Game of Thrones

The series so acclaimed by the public, Game of Thrones, also became a video game, released in 2014. The product was developed by Telltale Games. The player’s options and actions influence subsequent events of all episodes of the game.

19. Jurassic Park

This video game was developed by Telltale and released in 2011. It was inspired by the novel and films of Jurassic Park. Dinosaurs enter the scene along with characters in places that do not appear in the movies. 

20. Lost

This video game is inspired by the Lost series of ABC Studios. It was developed by Ubisoft and launched in 2008. Although the television strip managed to capture the attention of the public, the game was not so successful, because it promised to solve mysteries that would only be seen within it, but in the game, the protagonist was only walking on the island and talking with other characters.

21. King Kong

Peter Jackson’s King Kong is the official video game of the King Kong movie (2005). It was developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and released the same year as the movie. It is based on the main plot.

22. Spiderman 2

The video game, inspired by the Universe of the Spider-Man from the second movie, allowed him to tour the city of New York recreated in three dimensions, where he could fight the crime of Dr. Octopus, the main villain.
